The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recently sent out Oscar Award nomination ballots to more than 5,000 of its members (precisely 5,380) for the upcoming 79th Academy Awards. Nominations are due back in on February 20th. The event is on February 25th at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. Tell-it-like-it-is comedian Ellen DeGeneres will be the host.
Behind all this are the hardworking auditors of PricewaterhouseCoopers who will collect, tally, audit and deliver the verdicts under a cloak of total secrecy for these much awaited awards.
We recall that just before the event, two somber audit partners stroll up on the stage and hand over the results (a locked briefcase with envelopes??) to the organizers, so none but a few at PwC know the award winner.
All in all, this maintains the drama and secrecy of the event, and the unexpected is what is going to draw us all in to watch in a few weeks from now.
