UK Employers Finding It Hard to Fill Key Job Vacancies Today, Says KPMG

(blog) Here’s another one for the truth is stranger than fiction file. According to a new report from KPMG UK, almost half of the British employers surveyed said that they were having a hard time filling open job vacancies. In fact 45% of the 600 that were surveyed said that they were having this problem to such an extent they were looking offshore to fill the vacancies, especially for key positions where historically talent has been sourced from outside the UK as in engineering, accounting/finance and IT....

Ernst & Young UK Seeing A Fragile Recovery For The UK Economy

The recovery from the worst worldwide recession in the last 6o years has left the domestic side of the UK’s economy more vulnerable than first expected, according to official statisticians and Ernst & Young UK. The general consensus is that the country entered recession in Q4-2008 and was out of it in Q4-2009. But it is the growth in the quarters following the end of the recession are that much more critical.

KPMG Finds UK Jobs Increase in May 2010, But Rate Slows





KPMG and The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) have both good news and not-so-good news on UK jobs.

The good news is that UK labor market conditions continued to improve in May 2010, showing a rise in permanent staff placements for the tenth consecutive month. Also, permanent staff salaries increased for the seventh month running in May. The pace of expansion was high (despite falling from March's twelve-year peak). Temporary staff billings also increased at a strong rate. Higher staff appointments were helped by further improvement in demand for staff in May. Growth of vacancies was strong, although marginally slower than in April.

PwC Finds UK Consumers Hope Recovery Will Follow World Cup Win


PricewaterhouseCoopers UK has a very interesting finding after recently surveying 2,000 UK adults. A full one-fifth believe that a win for UK in the upcoming World Cup in South Africa “could help allay the financial crisis and would help the country out of the downturn.”...

KPMG Europe Revenues Drop 0.4% As Expected, Audit Shines






KPMG Europe LLP, which covers the UK, German, Swiss, Spanish and Belgian practices just reported its 2009 revenues at €3.5 billion in the year ending 30 September 2009, a 0.4% drop from 2008 on a pro forma basis at constant exchange rates. Overall, KPMG said that top-line growth proved hard to come by as a result of difficult market conditions...

Deloitte’s Employability Initiative Gets New Boost in the UK

Deloitte has been supporting the Employability Initiative since 2001.



In London it called again for major UK employers to “help champion skills training and tackle the chronic shortage of “employability” skills.”

In an event, attended by senior business leaders, government and education providers, and who will join the firm in championing and supporting this type of training for all young people...
